World Orthopaedic Concern (WOC) is dedicated to improving the standard of orthopaedic and reconstructive surgery in all developing countries in the tropics, subtropics, and anywhere where there is a need. We do this by educating Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Residents, Registrars, General Surgeons, General Surgery Residents, Medical Students, and paramedical personnel and technicians.
World Orthopedic Concern has members both in the so-called "developed" as well the "developing" world, both on the teaching and learning sides. We send experienced Orthopaedic Surgeons and Traumatologists to sites around the world, where their teaching expertise is needed. In addition to didactic teaching, they also do active surgical instruction in the operating theatre. We also organize teaching sites for Orthopaedic Surgeons from developing countries to receive short-term, specialized training.
World Orthopaedic Concern organizes its resources and teams through a regional approach in order to match efforts to needs worldwide. A region develops based on activity in the area, and regions are constantly changing. We have active groups in the United Kingdom (England), the United States of America (Orthopaedics Overseas), Australia, Singapore, Canada, India, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, South America, Japan, Hungary, Korea, Italy, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya and Nigeria. Today, France is the region for most of the French-speaking counties in Africa. Spain is the region for the Spanish-speaking countries in Africa. South America right now is one region, presenting the opportunity to develop distinct Portuguese and Spanish- speaking regions.
Membership is through the Regional Secretary, the Secretary-General, or the President. Each region is responsible for its own subscription and financial affairs. A list of our current regions is available on this Website, as is information about how to join.
